Mercedes GLA180D 1.5CDI – Etuners Stage1
The GLA180D uses Mercedes/Renault/Dacia/Nissan groups’ most popular 1.5 liter turbo-diesel engine unit that produces 109bhp stock. Unfortunately, it is not a strong powerplant for this platform. Specially when comparing it to the GLA45, the GLA250 or even its smaller sisters, the GLA200 and GLA180 that utilize much more powerful gasoline engines. All of them are much more powerful and probably more fun to drive stock, but much less fuel efficient.
Although the very same engine is used by Renault/Nissan and their minions, Mercedes saved the day by keeping the engine block and designing everything else around according to its own specs. Compared to the other 1.5diesels of the group, this one is the most blessed in terms of air intake system design and overall engine bay placement. Which benefits it tremendously with power output after tuning.
To help the tiny 1.5CDI/Dci, an #Etuners Stage1 ECU remap was developed to increase the torque and power output. On Nissans with the same engine we generally see no more than 136bhp after tuning. The GLA180D measured stock at 109hp, after the tune the engine’s power output reached 141hp. Torque also climbed from 289Nm to 336Nm.
