Abarth 595 1.4TJet (160hp) Auto – Etuners Stage3 GT1446 98RON
There are two major engine versions for Italy’s latest awesome pocket rocket: Abarth 595 1.4Tjet (aka Fiat 500 next gen). The 145hp and 160hp is one and the 180hp version the other! For the little ones to become big, all they need is the addition of the Garrett GT1446 turbo and a few upgraded parts. You can tell the big models apart from their fancy names: Pista, Competizione and other Italian acronyms, aimed at giving more value to their products. Although we are not the biggest fans of their marketing, their cars are actually good and lots of fun to drive!
This car arrived with a Stage1 remap from another tuner. The owner was frustrated by overboost issues and lack of performance at high rpm, which was verified on dyno. The power curve looked like a camel. Makes sense as the tune never was never meant to be used with a GT1446 turbo upgrade and everything else that came with it:
An upgraded full exhaust system kit, a cold air intake kit and an upgraded intercooler. Because the car was equipped with an auto gearbox, the massive torque spikes were putting it at risk.
After recalibrating the engine computer and making all the changes necessary to accommodate for all the upgraded parts there was a big improvement in power delivery and boost control. No more boost spikes from the turbo and excellent performance at high rpm. We topped this up with the addition of crackles (exhaust pop and bang) at liftoff.
